If you were to talk to a mother with 13 children, they would probably tell you that it is not a very easy life. Sure, it may have plenty of rewards but there are some difficulties that naturally go along with it as well.
That is what one woman in Germany experienced but she decided to go beyond those 13 children. Even though she was 65 years old, she gave birth to quadruplets. In the end, she ended up with 17 children.
Annegret Raunigk is retired from her former job of being a primary school English and German language teacher. At one point in her life, she was married but she is no longer hitched. That didn’t stop her from having 13 children from five different fathers.
According to a statement by a local television statement, the four newborns had a fairly good chance of survival but that didn’t rule out the possibility of complications because they were premature. Even though she was 65 years old, she was able to successfully give birth.
Perhaps what is interesting more than anything is the fact that she also has seven grandchildren and will be 70 years old by the time her kids go to school. Her decision to have children did get some criticism from others on the outside, but it really was her decision in the end.
She used fertility treatments in order to get pregnant and was rather surprised when she found out she was having quadruplets. Even though her gynecologist offered to reduce the number of children through a method known as selective reduction, she decided that she would have them all.
The babies were born premature and took a long time to get out of the NICU. All of them are doing quite well at this time and, despite some complications at first, they were warmly greeted by their family.
Even though things like this do cause a debate at times, it is always interesting when things turn out well.
