Rare cases occur by their nature, but when they do occur, they cause a worldwide sensation. What are the odds of giving birth to twins twice? Very low indeed! However, a couple from Louisiana (USA) had this wonderful experience.
Erin and Jake’s story is quite special, as the couple struggled to ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇ early on. With “a little help”, Erin managed to get pregnant and, to her delight, gave birth to identical twins, Cooper and Grant. Six years after this event, the couple looked into each other’s eyes and decided to expand the family and try to ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇ another child. Obviously, there was a lot of uncertainty in the air, especially since no one wanted to experience the ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀs that, fortunately, led to the first pregnancy. Anyway, Erin got pregnant for the second time, and to everyone’s amazement, she was carrying twins again.
When Erin looked at the ultrasound, she couldn’t believe her eyes: she was carrying another set of twins! Instinctively, she sent the ultrasound photo to her husband, Jake, who asked her, confused, why she was sending him an old ultrasound photo of her two children: “No, it’s the second round,” Erin replied, implying that the family would soon grow. It was a big shock for them, but they are now a beautiful family of six.
As Erin’s doctor explained, the odds of such an event occurring are 1 in 111,111 pregnancies : “To put this into perspective, you can consider that we’re delivering about 8,000 babies at Woman’s Hospital every year, so we would only see this once every 15 years.
Erin and Jake were able to greet their little girls on September 22, 2020. Identical twin girls are named Lola and Allie. There were some difficult times during the pregnancy, like when the whole family fell ill with C.o.v.i.d-19, but then luckily everything went well. Symptoms for Jake and Erin and the children were respiratory but still mild compared to other much more serious cases. They are now one big family and couldn’t be happier.
